- ABB reported third-quarter orders of 12.055 billion US dollars, up 40 percent year over year.
- Data-center demand drove particularly strong growth in the Electrification business.
- A planned joint venture with Mitsubishi Electric is intended to expand ABB's low-voltage power distribution business across Asia-Pacific.
ABB reported record third-quarter order intake on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, and raised its full-year growth and margin outlook. The electrification group said orders reached 12.055 billion US dollars, up 40 percent from a year earlier, while the book-to-bill ratio rose to 1.24.
Data-center demand was a central growth driver. ABB said the segment recorded triple-digit order growth in the quarter, supporting demand for electrification equipment as power-intensive computing expands. The company also reported strong cash flow and improved return on capital.
Orders outpaced seasonal patterns
According to ABB's third-quarter results release, order intake grew across most customer segments, with two of ABB's three business areas delivering strong growth. Management expects comparable revenue growth in the low-teens range for full-year 2026 and an improvement of at least 270 basis points in the reported Operational EBITA margin.
Asia-Pacific expansion takes shape
ABB also announced a planned joint venture with Mitsubishi Electric on October 20. Under the agreement, ABB would acquire a controlling 51 percent stake in a company built around Mitsubishi Electric's low-voltage power distribution business for 79 billion Japanese yen, or approximately 495 million US dollars. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2027, subject to approvals.
The planned venture combines ABB's technology and global sales network with Mitsubishi Electric's market position in Japan and manufacturing capabilities. ABB expects the venture to become earnings-per-share accretive after the first year and to reach an Operational EBITA margin of at least 20 percent within five years.
ABB stock traded at 76.56 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 09:57 CET on Saturday, October 31, 2026.
For investors, the stronger order pipeline and data-center exposure support ABB's growth profile, while the Mitsubishi venture adds a longer-term regional expansion project. Execution, regulatory approval and the conversion of orders into revenue remain key factors for the outlook.
Swiss equities remain linked to the SMI market environment.
