Record quarter raises full-year targets
Second-quarter sales reached 477.7 billion Japanese yen, up 81.7 percent from a year earlier and 30.0 percent from the prior quarter, according to Investing.com. Operating income rose to 266.8 billion yen, producing a 55.9 percent margin. Net income reached 193.3 billion yen.
The company’s full-year fiscal 2026 sales forecast increased to 1,863.0 billion yen from 1,714.0 billion yen. Operating income is now expected to reach 967.0 billion yen, compared with the previous forecast of 846.0 billion yen, while net income is projected at 741.5 billion yen versus 660.0 billion yen previously.
Advantest’s official earnings forecast puts the full-year operating margin at 51.9 percent, compared with 49.4 percent in the July projection. The company expects a 50.1 percent margin in the second half, reflecting higher component costs alongside stronger SoC tester sales and product mix.
AI testing drives capacity expansion
SoC Test Systems were the main growth engine in the quarter. Investing.com reported sales of 353.3 billion yen in the segment, driven by applications including graphics processors, custom application-specific integrated circuits and high-performance CPUs. Computing and communications applications accounted for about 90 percent of SoC Test Systems revenue.
Advantest said annual production capacity for SoC testers has exceeded 5,000 systems and that it is targeting 10,000 systems well ahead of its original schedule. The company also plans 60.0 billion yen of capital expenditure in fiscal 2026, up from the 50.0 billion yen July forecast. Management is expanding output while working to strengthen supply-chain resilience.
The company expects the semiconductor tester market to reach a new record in calendar 2026 as AI inference increases production volumes and semiconductor complexity. It also says demand for key components, including memory semiconductors, remains above supply as AI investment expands. Higher component and logistics costs remain risks to the margin outlook, while the company said the direct earnings impact of current Middle East conditions should be limited at this stage.
