Airbnb announced on October 28 that it will direct part of its revenue from every stay to Airbnb.org, expanding the nonprofit's emergency-housing role. In its official announcement, the company said the model is intended to provide up to USD 500 million over five years and support 1 million nights of free housing annually.

New targets widen the operating lens

The contribution amounts to USD 0.10 of Airbnb revenue per stay. It does not increase what guests pay or reduce host payouts, and it does not apply to canceled stays before check-in or to bookings for experiences and services.

Airbnb.org is broadening support beyond disaster response to include families traveling for medical care, survivors of domestic violence and exploitation, and U.S. military veterans facing serious illness or intensive treatment. The nonprofit plans to reach families in more than 20 countries through its medical-stay program, while Airbnb said the organization responded to more than 200 disasters in 2026, compared with eight in 2023.

Funding commitment meets earnings test

The company covers Airbnb.org's operating costs and makes no money from the nonprofit's emergency stays. The financial effect will depend on booking volume and on whether Airbnb must cover any gap between per-stay contributions and the five-year commitment.
