- Apple will integrate Alibaba's Qwen model into Siri, Writing Tools and Visual Intelligence for users in China.
- Developer testing is scheduled for November 4, with a broader rollout planned alongside iOS 27.3 in December.
- The partnership gives Qwen access to Apple's consumer ecosystem, while its direct financial contribution remains undisclosed.
Alibaba said on Sunday, November 1, that Apple will integrate its Qwen artificial-intelligence model into Apple Intelligence for users in China. Seoul Economic Daily reported that the agreement is the first Apple partnership with a local AI model developer since Apple Intelligence was cleared for the Chinese market.
Apple sets China rollout schedule
The integration will bring Qwen to Siri, Apple's Writing Tools and Visual Intelligence. The functions are intended to support text and image understanding, content generation, and analysis of selected documents and photos, according to Seoul Economic Daily.
Developer testing is scheduled to start on Wednesday, November 4, through the latest iOS developer beta. Apple and Alibaba plan a broader release for Chinese users with iOS 27.3 in December. Availability will depend on a supported Apple device in China, with the device location and Apple Account region set accordingly.
Distribution matters more than fees
Users will be able to choose whether to enable the Qwen integration and what information to share. Alibaba said requests and generated responses from the integration will not be used to train its models.
For Alibaba, the agreement connects Qwen with Apple's consumer interface instead of limiting the model to Alibaba's own applications and cloud services. The commercial contribution was not disclosed, leaving adoption, usage intensity and eventual economic terms as the main factors for investors to assess.
