- ASML reported third-quarter sales of 11.7 billion euros and net income of 5.0 billion euros on October 14.
- Management expects fourth-quarter sales of 14.2 billion to 15.2 billion euros and 2026 sales of 44 billion to 45 billion euros.
- Customers are showing interest in lithography equipment orders for 2029 and 2030, while planned supply for 2027 and 2028 may fall short.
ASML's third-quarter update on October 14 underscored how artificial intelligence investment is extending demand for semiconductor manufacturing equipment. In its third-quarter results release, ASML said customers were increasing short- and medium-term equipment forecasts and were expressing interest in orders for 2029 and 2030.
ASML reported third-quarter net sales of 11.7 billion euros, up from 9.3 billion euros in the second quarter. Gross margin rose to 57.5% from 54.0%, while net income increased to 5.0 billion euros from 2.9 billion euros. New lithography systems sold climbed to 113 units from 86.
Longer Visibility, Higher Execution Risk
Chief Executive Christophe Fouquet said customer forecasts were being driven primarily by views on the size and duration of AI-related investment. ASML now expects its currently planned supply for both 2027 and 2028 to fall short of customer demand and is investigating ways to expand 2028 capacity beyond the previously communicated 30% increase.
The company expects fourth-quarter 2026 net sales of 14.2 billion to 15.2 billion euros, with a gross margin of about 57%. Its full-year outlook calls for sales of 44 billion to 45 billion euros and a gross margin of about 56%. The outlook reflects strong demand visibility, but production expansion, customer timing and supply-chain execution remain important variables for investors.
ASML also said it purchased about 4.1 billion euros of shares under its 2026-2028 buyback program during the third quarter. An interim dividend of 1.88 euros per ordinary share was scheduled to become payable on November 4, separating the company's capital-return plans from its operating outlook.
