The race to secure independent supplies of advanced nuclear fuel has gained a new player. Asp Isotopes saw its shares surge 15% to €5.28 on Monday after its subsidiary, Quantum Leap Energy (QLE), signed a letter of intent with an unnamed European nuclear technology company. The deal – still non-binding – targets the production of high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU), the specialised fuel essential for next-generation reactors.

Under the proposed arrangement, the European partner will supply the raw uranium feedstock, while QLE will apply its proprietary enrichment technology to raise the U-235 concentration above the 10% threshold that defines HALEU. The letter of intent runs through the end of 2030 and includes a plan to gradually scale up output through 2036, with initial deliveries targeted for 2028. Both sides now begin a technical and economic feasibility study to determine whether the project can move to binding contracts.

The timing aligns with a broader Western push to reduce dependence on Russian HALEU supplies. QLE holds exclusive rights to the enrichment technologies of both companies for this specific fuel cycle, giving it a potentially pivotal role in the emerging supply chain. The company is already collaborating with industry heavyweight TerraPower on related initiatives.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Asp Isotopes?

Despite Monday’s rally, the stock remains 44% below its 52-week high of €9.45. The relative strength index sits at 33.3, hovering near oversold territory, while annualised volatility above 100% underscores the sharp swings that have characterised the stock. On the financial side, Asp Isotopes recently reported a dramatic revenue jump to approximately $23.85 million – a 476% increase year-over-year – and carries a liquidity ratio of 12.23, indicating a solid cash position even as the company continues to post losses.

Investor enthusiasm must be tempered with caution. The letter of intent remains legally non-binding, and the feasibility study may or may not lead to firm supply agreements. For now, the market is pricing in the potential of a private-sector HALEU solution, but the path from memorandum to commercial production is still several years and a great deal of technical validation away. The next critical milestones will be the outcome of the feasibility study and confirmation that the 2028 production timeline holds.
