- Barrick is funding and operating an expanded Pen Gold exploration program under its earn-in agreement with GFG Resources.
- The work includes geophysics, base-of-till sampling, mapping and rock sampling before planned diamond drilling.
- The drilling timetable remains subject to confirmation and depends on exploration results and target priorities.
Barrick Mining's proposed Pen Gold program is moving into a broader 2027 exploration phase, according to a November 2 release from GFG Resources carried by BNN Bloomberg. Barrick is funding and operating the work at the Pen Gold Project southwest of Timmins, Ontario, under its earn-in agreement with GFG.
Pen Gold work broadens in 2027
The plan builds on an initial US$500,000 exploration program in 2026. A property-wide airborne gravity survey is planned for the fourth quarter of 2026, followed by approximately 240 base-of-till holes in the first quarter of 2027. Geological mapping and rock sampling are scheduled for the second and third quarters of 2027.
Initial diamond drilling is tentatively planned for the fourth quarter of 2027 and could continue into the first half of 2028. GFG said Barrick has a firm commitment to spend at least C$4.0 million during the first three years of the agreement, including a minimum of 5,000 metres of diamond drilling. The scope and timing remain subject to confirmation as results and target priorities develop.
