Beiersdorf stock: HSBC cuts target as NIVEA outlook weakens

- HSBC lowered Beiersdorf to Hold from Buy and cut its price target to 88 euros.
- NIVEA sales declined organically in the third quarter, while Derma and La Prairie delivered strong growth.
- Beiersdorf maintained its 2026 guidance despite continued pressure from NIVEA and tesa.
HSBC downgraded Beiersdorf to Hold from Buy on Monday, November 2, and lowered its price target from 90 euros to 88 euros. The Investing.com report said slower NIVEA sales to shoppers raised doubts about Beiersdorf's growth prospects in 2027.
HSBC said NIVEA's third-quarter sell-out momentum slowed despite an exceptionally strong European sun-care season. The bank expects the brand's sales to decline again in the fourth quarter because of a higher comparison base following last year's product launches.
Mixed Segment Performance Remains Central
Beiersdorf's third-quarter organic group sales fell 1.3%, while the Consumer division declined 0.7%. NIVEA sales dropped 4.9%, including a 170-basis-point effect from a commercial dispute in Russia. Management said the dispute had been resolved and normal sales should resume in the fourth quarter.
Other businesses provided a counterweight. Derma sales rose 10.6% organically, La Prairie increased 8.5% with support from China, and Healthcare grew 5.7%. Tesa sales fell 4.3% as semiconductor supply shortages weighed on its Electronics business.
Beiersdorf maintained its 2026 guidance. Management expects easier comparisons and easing electronics supply problems to support tesa, although the business remains exposed to a less favorable product mix and related margin pressure.
HSBC sees additional risks from Beiersdorf's cautious pricing strategy in Europe after retailer disputes in 2026. The bank cut its 2027 earnings-per-share forecast to 4.17 euros from 4.22 euros and reduced its adjusted operating-margin estimate to 12% from 12.2%, removing its earlier expectation for margin expansion.
At 10:11 CET on Wednesday, November 4, Beiersdorf stock traded at 83.61 euros on Lang & Schwarz, 0.52 percent above the Xetra close of 83.18 euros from Tuesday, November 3. Investors are therefore weighing strong premium-skincare growth against the still incomplete NIVEA turnaround and the possibility of weaker margin progress.
For investors, HSBC said meaningful upside would require a clear acceleration in NIVEA sales to shoppers or a substantial recovery in margins. The bank does not expect either development over the next 12 months. The real-time quote of Beiersdorf stock remains the key reference for the current trading level.
