Caterpillar Inc. reported stronger third-quarter results on October 29, with sales and revenues rising 17 percent year over year to USD 20.7 billion. The company also delivered higher margins, increased profit per share and continued cash returns to shareholders, according to Caterpillar's October 29 results release.

Margins Rise With Higher Volume

Sales and revenues reached USD 20.7 billion, compared with USD 17.6 billion in the third quarter of 2025. Caterpillar said the increase primarily reflected USD 2.2 billion in higher sales volume and USD 663 million from favorable price realization.

Operating profit margin increased to 20.4 percent from 17.3 percent a year earlier. The adjusted operating profit margin, which excludes restructuring costs, rose to 20.6 percent from 17.5 percent. Operating profit per share increased to USD 7.13 from USD 4.88, while adjusted profit per share rose to USD 7.20 from USD 4.95.

The figures point to operating leverage as Caterpillar converted stronger equipment demand into faster profit growth. The company said higher sales to end users were the main driver of the volume increase, while management described order rates as strong across its end markets.

Backlog And Cash Returns

Chairman and CEO Joe Creed said the quarter reflected the durability of Caterpillar's end markets, strong order rates and a record backlog. He also said the company was continuing to execute its strategic priorities in a dynamic environment while seeking to deliver long-term value for customers and shareholders.

Enterprise operating cash flow was USD 4.4 billion in the quarter, and enterprise cash stood at USD 7.9 billion at quarter-end. Caterpillar deployed USD 1.2 billion to repurchase common stock and paid USD 0.7 billion in dividends, bringing total shareholder distributions for the quarter to USD 2.0 billion.

Caterpillar stock traded at 563.70 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 10:52 CET on Monday, November 2, 2026. Investors are weighing the stronger quarterly operating figures against the company's ongoing exposure to construction, mining and power-equipment demand.
