- The contracts cover Platts freight routes between Western Australia or Brazil and Qingdao, plus a US Gulf route.
- Trading is scheduled through CME Globex, with clearing available through CME ClearPort.
- The products extend CME Group's listed derivatives range into shipping-cost risk management under NYMEX rules.
CME Group will add five Platts dry-freight futures to its listed derivatives range for the trade date Monday, November 2, 2026. The exchange operator outlined the launch in its CME Group Globex notice published October 26.
Freight products broaden CME offering
The new contracts track dry-freight routes from Western Australia to Qingdao, Brazil to Qingdao and the US Gulf to Qingdao. The launch includes Capesize and Panamax routes, as well as a prompt Brazil-to-Qingdao Panamax contract.
The products are scheduled for trading on CME Globex and submission for clearing through CME ClearPort, subject to completion of regulatory review periods. CME Group says the contracts are listed with and subject to NYMEX rules. Customer testing was already available in the New Release environment when the notice was issued.
For investors, the launch adds another listed product group linked to the global shipping market. Freight derivatives can give commercial and financial users a venue to manage exposure to shipping costs, while expanding the range of contracts available through CME Group's exchange infrastructure. The notice itself does not provide a revenue forecast or a financial contribution estimate for the new products.
