- CommBank economists lowered their national housing forecast as higher rates weigh on demand.

- CBA will raise variable home loan rates after the Reserve Bank of Australia increased its cash rate.
On Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Commonwealth Bank economists cut their Australian housing outlook, pointing to a sharper and longer correction as higher interest rates weigh on households. The forecast is a new weekly development for investors assessing the bank's exposure to mortgages and the domestic economy.
CommBank's published analysis puts the national dwelling market on course for a 14 percent peak-to-trough decline, compared with a 9 percent forecast in September. Brisbane and Perth are each projected to fall 18 percent from peak to trough, while Sydney is forecast to decline 16 percent and Melbourne 13 percent.
Higher rates deepen mortgage pressure
The Reserve Bank of Australia raised its cash rate by 25 basis points to 4.85 percent at its November meeting. Commonwealth Bank's housing forecast assumes that rate peak, compared with the 4.60 percent assumption used in September. CBA economist Trent Saunders estimates the higher peak reduces national dwelling-price growth in 2027 by around two percentage points versus the lower-rate scenario.
On Wednesday, November 4, CBA said it would raise variable home loan rates by 0.25 percentage points, with the changes taking effect on November 13. The move increases repayment pressure for borrowers but may support interest income across the bank's lending book, subject to credit demand and arrears trends.
