Corning Inc. reported strong third-quarter 2026 results on October 27, with core sales rising 19 percent year over year to USD 5.08 billion and core EPS increasing 36 percent to USD 0.91. The company said the figures exceeded its guidance and extended the growth push under its Springboard plan.

The company's release is available from Corning. Zacks Investment Research likewise highlighted accelerating optical demand, higher margins and the company's fourth-quarter outlook in its analysis published October 29.

Optical Communications Leads Expansion

Optical Communications generated third-quarter sales of USD 2.38 billion, up 44 percent from the prior year. Segment net income rose 80 percent to USD 532 million. Within the segment, Enterprise Networks sales increased 84 percent to USD 1.53 billion, while Gen AI product sales more than doubled.

Carrier Network sales rose 4 percent to USD 854 million. The mix shows why investors are focusing on Corning's exposure to data-center interconnect demand: the strongest contribution came from products linked to higher bandwidth and denser artificial-intelligence infrastructure.

Zacks said Corning also secured four long-term, multibillion-dollar customer agreements during the quarter, including agreements with Verizon and AT&T. The commitments support manufacturing expansion and can improve demand visibility as the company adds capacity.

Margins Rise With Revenue

Growth reached the income statement as well as the top line. Core gross margin expanded 150 basis points year over year to 40.5 percent, while core operating margin increased 310 basis points to 22.7 percent. Core return on invested capital improved 330 basis points to 16.7 percent.

Corning generated USD 661 million of adjusted free cash flow during the quarter while investing more than USD 500 million in capacity. That combination gives investors a clearer measure of whether the optical upcycle is producing cash as well as revenue, although continued investment will remain important to meeting customer commitments.

Fourth-Quarter Targets Stay Elevated

Management expects fourth-quarter core sales of USD 5.2 billion to USD 5.3 billion, representing approximately 19 percent year-over-year growth. Core EPS is expected at USD 0.96 to USD 1.00, which would amount to approximately 36 percent growth.

At the midpoint, the guidance implies a USD 5.25 billion quarterly sales pace and an annualized run rate of about USD 21 billion. Corning's longer-term Springboard plan calls for a USD 40 billion annualized sales run rate by the end of 2030, with earnings growth ahead of sales growth.

Solar Remains A Profit Test

Solar is the main counterweight to the optical growth story. Third-quarter Solar sales increased 37 percent to USD 436 million, but the segment recorded a USD 7 million net loss. Corning is working to improve productivity as wafer and module operations scale, leaving investors to watch whether additional revenue converts into sustained profitability.
