- Adjusted earnings per share reached 2.09 US dollars, up from 1.60 US dollars a year earlier.
- Health Care Benefits improved its medical benefit ratio to 91.3 percent from 92.8 percent.
- Management cited elevated cost trends and potential macroeconomic headwinds as risks for the rest of 2026.
CVS Health reported stronger third-quarter results on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, and raised its full-year outlook. In a CVS Health investor relations release, the company said third-quarter revenue rose 5.4 percent from a year earlier. Net income reached 2.17 billion US dollars, compared with a loss of 3.99 billion US dollars in the prior-year quarter.
GAAP diluted earnings per share came to 1.68 US dollars, versus a loss of 3.13 US dollars a year earlier. The comparison benefited from the absence of a 5.7 billion US dollar goodwill impairment charge recorded in the third quarter of 2025. Adjusted earnings per share increased to 2.09 US dollars from 1.60 US dollars, helped by better adjusted operating income in Health Care Benefits.
Insurance margin recovery advances
Health Care Benefits revenue rose 2.4 percent to 36.855 billion US dollars. Adjusted operating income climbed to 912 million US dollars from 314 million US dollars, while the medical benefit ratio improved to 91.3 percent from 92.8 percent. CVS Health said the segment benefited mainly from better underlying performance in its Government business.
Health Services revenue increased 9.5 percent to 53.964 billion US dollars, but adjusted operating income advanced only 2.7 percent to 2.106 billion US dollars. Pharmacy and Consumer Wellness revenue declined 2.0 percent to 35.498 billion US dollars, while adjusted operating income rose 10.6 percent to 1.635 billion US dollars. Pharmacy mix and Rite Aid prescription file acquisitions supported profitability, partly offsetting reimbursement pressure and regulatory-related price reductions.
Higher targets, cautious risk view
CVS Health now expects at least 6.98 US dollars in full-year GAAP diluted earnings per share and at least 8.20 US dollars in adjusted earnings per share. It also raised its operating cash flow target to at least 15.5 billion US dollars. The company maintained a cautious view for the remainder of the year because elevated cost trends and potential macroeconomic headwinds could weigh on performance.
Management said all three operating segments delivered another quarter of strong results and pointed to continued efforts to improve the consumer experience, lower health care costs and connect care. For investors, the figures suggest that the insurance margin recovery is becoming a more important earnings driver, while weaker pharmacy revenue and reimbursement pressure remain areas to monitor.
