The results add a new earnings driver to the recent takeover debate with BASF. Evonik also expects fourth-quarter earnings to exceed the prior-year period, although the company continues to operate against weak economic growth and geopolitical tensions.
Sales increased 13 percent from the prior-year quarter, supported by a 10 percent rise in prices and a 2 percent increase in volumes. Free cash flow reached 369 million euros in the quarter, while first-nine-month free cash flow more than doubled to 601 million euros.
Costs remain a key investor focus
Evonik booked 313 million euros in third-quarter provisions for its extended Evonik Tailor Made efficiency program, weighing on net income. Net income was negative at 53 million euros, compared with a loss of 106 million euros in the year-earlier quarter. The company expects the program to continue through 2029.
The portfolio agenda is also advancing. Evonik said the sale process for Oxeno is progressing as planned, with a buyer expected in the coming months, while preparations for a possible sale of Syneqt have started. Advanced Technologies was the strongest operating segment, with adjusted EBITDA up 87 percent to 377 million euros.
