FedEx raised its calendar 2026 earnings and revenue outlook on October 28 after reporting stronger results for the quarter ended September 30. The company said higher package yields, increased volumes and structural cost reductions supported the performance, while purchased transportation and wage costs remained a drag. The full release is available from FedEx.

Revenue and profit move higher

Revenue increased 12% year over year to 22.9 billion US dollars. Adjusted operating income rose to 1.20 billion US dollars from 1.03 billion US dollars, while the adjusted operating margin improved to 5.3% from 5.1%.

Adjusted diluted earnings per share reached 3.74 US dollars, compared with 2.93 US dollars a year earlier. FedEx reported GAAP diluted earnings per share of 1.21 US dollars. The difference reflected several items, including a 1.2 billion US dollar loss on the retained FedEx Freight investment, a gain from debt extinguishment and restructuring-related costs.

Express U.S. Domestic revenue rose 10% to 14.7 billion US dollars. Express International revenue advanced 17% to 7.5 billion US dollars, while international operating income increased to 220 million US dollars from 192 million US dollars. The company attributed the improvement to stronger base yields, export volumes and freight weight.

Guidance points to stronger earnings

FedEx now expects calendar 2026 revenue growth of about 12%, compared with its previous forecast of about 11%. The adjusted diluted earnings-per-share range increased to 18.00 to 18.60 US dollars from 16.90 to 18.10 US dollars. The midpoint of the new range is 18.30 US dollars.

The forecast excludes mark-to-market adjustments for retirement-plan accounting and the retained FedEx Freight investment, as well as restructuring, exit and other costs. FedEx also lowered its adjusted effective tax-rate assumption to about 22.5% from about 23%. Capital spending remains forecast at 3.9 billion US dollars.

Management said the outlook assumes current economic and fuel-price expectations and no additional adverse developments in the economy, geopolitical conditions or international trade. Chief executive Raj Subramaniam said the company was focused on reducing cost to serve while pursuing profitable growth. That leaves execution of the transformation program and the balance between pricing, volumes and purchased transportation costs central to the investment case.

Shareholder returns and cost risks

FedEx completed 2.0 billion US dollars of share repurchases between June and September, buying approximately 6.3 million shares. The company said 4.3 billion US dollars remained available under its 2026 repurchase authorization as of September 30.

FedEx also completed the sale of FedEx Supply Chain to CMA CGM Group for approximately 1.4 billion US dollars on October 1. Separately, average parcel shipping rates are scheduled to rise 5.9% from January 4, 2027. Higher rates may support yields, but purchased transportation, fuel and wage inflation remain relevant risks to margins.

FedEx stock traded at 282.95 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 13:18 CET on Tuesday, November 3, 1.07 percent below the Xetra close of Monday, November 2. Investors are weighing the higher profit outlook against the company's stated cost pressures and the execution demands of its network transformation.
