- Higher copper prices lifted quarterly earnings despite lower sales volumes.
- Grasberg remains central to Freeport-McMoRan's planned production recovery.
- Lower near-term copper forecasts keep execution and commodity risks in focus.
Freeport-McMoRan's third-quarter update combined stronger earnings with lower near-term copper forecasts. The company also continued to advance its recovery plan for the Grasberg operation in Indonesia.
TradingView, citing Benzinga, reported that the October 27 earnings update showed adjusted earnings of 88 cents per share and revenue of USD 7.546 billion. Copper production reached 832 million pounds, while sales totaled 749 million pounds. The average realized copper price was USD 6.54 per pound, helping offset lower volumes and higher costs.
Grasberg Drives The Recovery
Grasberg remains the main operating focus for the longer-term growth case. The ramp-up is expected to support higher copper production and sales in 2027 and 2028, while the company continues to work through operational constraints in the United States and Chile.
Freeport-McMoRan lowered its 2026 copper sales forecast by about 2 percent and its 2027 forecast by 2.5 percent. Management attributed the reductions to lower U.S. and Chilean production and updated mine plans. The 2028 copper outlook remained unchanged.
Freeport-McMoRan stock traded at 52.55 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 16:08 CET on Thursday, November 5, 2026. Compared with the 56.66-euro quote in the previous report published on November 4, the stock was 7.25 percent lower. The real-time quote of Freeport-McMoRan stock is available here.
For investors, the outlook rests on the pace of the Grasberg recovery, copper prices and the company's ability to manage cost pressure while restoring production. TradingView's report said Freeport expects copper sales to rise from about 3 billion pounds in 2026 to 3.7 billion pounds in 2027 and more than 4 billion pounds in 2028.
