Illinois Tool Works reported stronger third-quarter operating performance on October 27, 2026, and raised its full-year earnings outlook for the third time this year. The industrial manufacturer said revenue increased 4.4 percent to 4.24 billion US dollars, while GAAP earnings per share rose 6.8 percent to 3.00 US dollars. The company released the figures through its third-quarter results statement.

Margin expansion supports guidance
Operating income reached 1.18 billion US dollars, a quarterly record and a 5.9 percent increase from the prior-year quarter. The operating margin widened by 40 basis points to 27.8 percent. Enterprise initiatives contributed 130 basis points, while price increases and other actions more than offset higher raw-material costs.
Organic revenue growth was 3.8 percent, led by 6.0 percent growth in North America. Management said demand accelerated in capital-expenditure-related Welding and Test & Measurement and Electronics, while Polymers & Fluids remained strong. A tornado that damaged two Welding facilities in late July reduced quarterly revenue by an estimated 40 million US dollars. The company said the associated operating-income loss was largely offset by business-interruption insurance and that the forward impact should be immaterial.
Higher outlook and shareholder returns
Illinois Tool Works raised its full-year 2026 GAAP EPS guidance by 0.05 US dollars at the midpoint to a range of 11.45 to 11.55 US dollars. The new midpoint of 11.50 US dollars implies 10 percent year-over-year growth. Revenue growth guidance increased to 4.5 to 5.5 percent, while the company kept its organic growth target at 3 to 4 percent and its operating-margin outlook at 26.5 to 27.5 percent.
Free cash flow reached 851 million US dollars in the quarter, equal to 100 percent of net income. Illinois Tool Works repurchased 187 million US dollars of stock and raised its quarterly dividend by 7 percent, lifting the annualized payout to 6.88 US dollars per share. The increase extended the company's record to 63 consecutive years of dividend growth. Management expects about 1.5 billion US dollars of share repurchases for the full year.
For investors, the higher EPS midpoint combines operating leverage with continued capital returns, but the outlook still depends on demand in capital-expenditure markets, raw-material costs and currency movements. The company also expects fourth-quarter organic growth above 5 percent while forecasting sequential revenue growth of 1 to 2 percent despite two fewer shipping days.
