- Infineon and Qualcomm are developing a microcontroller-based safety subsystem for Snapdragon Ride and Ride Flex platforms.
- The design combines AURIX microcontrollers, OPTIREG power management, connectivity and SEMPER NOR Flash memory.
- Infineon will showcase the technology at electronica in Munich from November 10 to 13, ahead of its quarterly results on November 10.
Infineon Technologies announced on Monday, November 2, that it had signed a technology agreement with Qualcomm Technologies to support central vehicle computers for software-defined vehicles. The announcement came ahead of electronica in Munich, where Infineon plans to present the technology from November 10 to 13.
The agreement covers a microcontroller-based subsystem for Qualcomm's Snapdragon Ride and Ride Flex reference platforms. Infineon said the design is intended to help coordinate high-performance computing and artificial-intelligence functions with safety-critical vehicle operations.
Safety layer for central computing
The subsystem is built around an Infineon AURIX microcontroller and OPTIREG power-management integrated circuits. It monitors system health, coordinates safety mechanisms and supports predictable, real-time control of functions that are critical to vehicle operation.
Infineon is also supplying software that links its microcontroller firmware with safety and monitoring software tailored to Qualcomm's platforms. According to the company, the package is designed to help automakers and Tier 1 suppliers scale systems more quickly and connect them with vehicle networks such as Ethernet and controller area network.
The technology package extends beyond the microcontroller. Infineon said its BRIGHTLANE automotive Ethernet and USB connectivity products, together with SEMPER NOR Flash memory qualified for Snapdragon Ride, can support data flow and system integrity across the vehicle architecture.
What the agreement means
The arrangement gives Infineon a role in vehicle computers whose primary system-on-chip comes from Qualcomm. That positions the German semiconductor group as a supplier of the safety, power, connectivity and memory components surrounding the main processor rather than as the provider of the central computing chip itself.
Peter Schiefer, president of Infineon's Automotive division, said the companies' approach combines a powerful system-on-chip with specialized components that must work together for safe vehicle operation. The statement signals a focus on integration and functional safety as automakers move toward centralized vehicle architectures.
Infineon stock traded at 49.80 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 12:19 CET on Thursday, November 5, 2026, 0.87 percent below the Xetra close of Wednesday, November 4. The real-time quote of Infineon stock provides the latest trading view.
Infineon's next scheduled quarterly results are due on Tuesday, November 10, the same day electronica opens in Munich. Investors may therefore assess the automotive initiative alongside the company's financial update and its outlook for semiconductor demand.
Market attention is also likely to remain on semiconductor and technology shares as the S&P 500 shapes the broader backdrop.
Current market reports provide further context for the wider market.
