ING reported stronger third-quarter results on Thursday, October 29, 2026, and paired the performance with a new capital-return plan. In its third-quarter 2026 press release, ING said net result rose 3.5 percent year-on-year to EUR 1.850 billion.

The bank also reported profit before tax of EUR 2.705 billion, up 5.7 percent from a year earlier. Fee income increased 9.3 percent to EUR 1.273 billion, while return on tangible equity reached 16.3 percent for the quarter. The four-quarter rolling figure stood at 14.8 percent.

Capital return follows profit growth

ING said its CET1 ratio was 13.3 percent at the end of the quarter. Strong capital generation and two risk-transfer transactions that generated EUR 3.0 billion of risk-weighted-asset relief enabled the bank to announce a further EUR 1.9 billion distribution after completing the buyback programme announced in April.

Chief Executive Steven van Rijswijk said customer growth and higher balances supported the quarter. ING added 259,000 mobile primary customers, while net core lending rose by EUR 11.0 billion and net core deposits increased by EUR 12.1 billion. Management also said it would refocus and simplify Wholesale Banking to make it easier for clients to do business with the bank.

2026 outlook remains unchanged

ING said it remains on track to deliver its 2026 outlook. The bank expects total income to exceed EUR 24.5 billion, fee income to reach about EUR 5.0 billion and operating expenses to remain between EUR 12.6 billion and EUR 12.8 billion, excluding incidental items. Full-year return on tangible equity is expected to exceed 15 percent, with the CET1 ratio near 13 percent.

The real-time quote of ING Groep stock traded at 28.96 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 12:14 CET on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.
