Jardine Cycle stock: Astra profit mix stays resilient despite mining slump

- Astra's underlying net income remained broadly stable in the first nine months of 2026 despite weaker mining operations.
- Automotive and financial services delivered growth, while reported profit was reduced by impairments and fair-value adjustments.
- Share buybacks and a tender offer underline Astra's active capital allocation as the fourth quarter begins.
Jardine Cycle & Carriage remains exposed to an uneven operating mix at Astra International after the Indonesian associate reported resilient first-nine-month results for 2026. An RNS announcement carried by TradingView said underlying net income was broadly stable at Rp24.6 trillion for the nine months ended September 30, 2026.
Automotive offsets mining pressure
Astra's automotive business increased net income by 8% to Rp9.8 trillion, while financial services grew 6% to Rp7.2 trillion. Those gains were offset by a 28% decline in Mining Solutions & Heavy Equipment net income to Rp5.1 trillion, as lower coal quotas and the earlier suspension of gold production weighed on demand and volumes.
The third quarter showed improvement within the mining division, supported by higher mining-services volumes and the resumption of production at the Martabe gold mine. Astra said it expects those factors to continue supporting performance in the fourth quarter, although the nine-month mix still highlights the group's sensitivity to commodity-linked activity.
Reported profit reflects special items
Revenue was stable at Rp243.9 trillion, while reported net income fell 12% to Rp21.6 trillion after Rp3.0 trillion of non-recurring items, mainly impairments and fair-value adjustments in equity investments. Net asset value per share increased 5% to Rp5,999, indicating that the balance sheet strengthened despite the decline in reported earnings.
Astra also completed Rp10.0 trillion of share buybacks from November 2025 through September 2026. Further programmes at United Tractors and Astra Agro Lestari, together with a voluntary tender offer for Astra Otoparts, keep capital allocation in focus for investors assessing Jardine Cycle & Carriage's principal operating exposure.
