- Amar Babu will become Motorola's global president and Mobile Business Group general manager on January 1, 2027.
- He is expected to focus on premium growth, intelligent devices and expansion in key markets.
- Lenovo continues to position hybrid artificial intelligence across devices, infrastructure, software and services.
Lenovo announced on Wednesday, November 4, that Amar Babu will become Motorola's global president and general manager of the Mobile Business Group on January 1, 2027. The appointment gives the smartphone business a new leader as Lenovo seeks to expand its premium portfolio and broader intelligent-device ecosystem.
The company said Babu will continue serving as president of Asia Pacific in the short term while working with Motorola's leadership team on the transition. Luca Rossi, Lenovo's executive vice president and Intelligent Devices Group president, will remain acting Motorola global president through the end of 2026.
Motorola enters a new leadership phase
According to the Lenovo StoryHub press release, Babu has led Lenovo's Asia Pacific business for more than five years. Lenovo said the region retained the top PC position, while Motorola reached nearly 9 percent smartphone market share in India and became the number-two smartphone original equipment manufacturer in Japan.
For investors, the change links execution in mobile devices with Lenovo's wider hybrid AI strategy. The company describes that strategy as spanning personal AI, enterprise AI, PCs, smartphones, infrastructure, software, solutions and services. The appointment itself does not establish how quickly Motorola's profitability or market share will change, but it sets a management priority for the coming year.
Lenovo stock traded at 2.20 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 10:30 CET on Saturday, November 7.
