- Lenzing moved the planned Heiligenkreuz shutdown beyond year-end to give production transfers more time.
- About 285 employees work at the site, while potential buyers are reviewing a takeover.
- Investors will assess the transfer plan alongside the company's next quarterly update.
Lenzing said on October 22 that it would close its Heiligenkreuz site in the first quarter of 2027 rather than at the end of 2026. The company cited the transfer of production to other locations, according to a ORF report based on an APA enquiry.
Shutdown timing changes
The additional operating period is intended to allow Lenzing to process existing inventories and move production while maintaining continuous customer deliveries. The revised timetable changes the pace of the restructuring but does not itself resolve the plant's long-term ownership.
About 285 employees work at the Burgenland site. Lenzing is in contact with about 30 parties interested in a possible takeover, and those parties have received detailed information and may submit offers. The company wants clarity on the site's future by the end of the year, the ORF report said.
Execution remains key
For investors, the main near-term questions are whether production can be transferred without disrupting customers and whether buyer interest develops into a binding transaction. The delayed shutdown offers more time for both processes, while leaving the final outcome open.
