Lloyds Banking Group stock stood at GBp 107 on the LSE on September 24, 2026, down 0.51 percent for the session and 9.2 percent below its 52-week high of GBp 117.90. The quote puts the bank's market capitalization at GBP 62,119,348,920 and frames the stock against a strong first-half operating performance.
Profit rises in first half
According to Lloyds Banking Group, net income reached GBP 9.7 billion in the first half of 2026, an increase of 9 percent from the same period a year earlier. Statutory profit after tax rose 23 percent to GBP 3.1 billion, giving the earnings trend more weight than the modest daily share-price change.
The bank reported a 17.1 percent return on tangible equity for the first half of 2026, up 3 percentage points year over year. Operating costs were GBP 4.9 billion and stayed flat year over year, while the cost:income ratio was 50.4 percent.
Capital returns sharpen the case
Shareholder distributions totaled GBP 1.9 billion in the first half of 2026, including a 1.58 pence interim dividend and a GBP 1 billion share buyback. The dividend was 30 percent higher than in the first half of 2025, linking the stronger profit result directly to cash returns.
Loan balances grew 2 percent year to date and deposits increased 1 percent in the first half of 2026. The pro forma CET1 ratio after shareholder distributions was 13.1 percent, while capital generation reached 108 basis points.
2030 targets reset the benchmark
Lloyds reiterated 2026 guidance for underlying net interest income above GBP 14.9 billion, a cost:income ratio below 50 percent and return on tangible equity above 16 percent. The bank also expects capital generation above 200 basis points for 2026.
Under Accelerate 2030, management targets a cost:income ratio below 45 percent in 2030 and return on tangible equity of about 20 percent in 2030. For investors, the comparison is clear: the first-half ROTE of 17.1 percent already exceeds the 2026 threshold, while the longer-term plan depends on further efficiency gains.
