Lockheed Martin stock is in focus after a live-fire demonstration enabled a GMLRS rocket to change targets during flight. The test involved the U.S. Army.

GMLRS Test Expands Targeting Options

  • Lockheed Martin and the U.S. Army redirected a GMLRS rocket in flight and destroyed a moving target.
  • Strigo and RIG-360 connected existing sensors, launchers and targeting systems without a fundamental missile redesign.
  • The demonstration may support future applications for Extended Range GMLRS and Precision Strike Missile.

Lockheed Martin and the U.S. Army have demonstrated an in-flight target change for a Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System rocket, according to a release published by WebWire on Thursday, October 29, 2026. The recent test at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, ended with the rocket destroying a moving target.

The team launched the GMLRS from a HIMARS launcher and transmitted updated target information while the rocket was airborne. Lockheed Martin used its Strigo datalink and Remote Interceptor Guidance-360, or RIG-360, for the demonstration. The company funded the integration internally.

Networked Fires Without New Missile Design

The demonstration focused on connecting existing sensors, launchers and targeting systems rather than fundamentally changing the GMLRS missile. That architecture could allow commanders to adjust a pre-programmed strike when battlefield conditions change, according to the release.

Lockheed Martin said the datalink package is also applicable to Extended Range GMLRS and the Precision Strike Missile. The test therefore points to a potential technology path across several precision-fires programs, but the release did not announce an operational fielding date, production award or contract value.
