London Stock Exchange Group's digital securities business has received a new regulatory approval in the United Kingdom, creating a separate development for investors beyond the company's recent earnings outlook and Octus acquisition plans. FX News Group reported the approval on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

Approval broadens digital market infrastructure

LSEG's Digital Securities Depositary received a Gate 2 Sandbox Approval Notice under the UK's Digital Securities Sandbox. The approval allows the depositary to perform core and ancillary functions covering notary, maintenance and settlement services.

The decision also covers a standard link between LSEG's digital securities depositary and HSBC Bank's HSBC Orion depositary. The link is intended to support settlement for instruments including DIGIT, subject to the required designation approvals for both institutions.

LSEG plans to provide the cash leg of settlement through its DiSH platform for transactions executed on the platform, including the DIGIT pilot. The company said the arrangement could support additional cash settlement options as market demand and regulation develop.

DIGIT puts distributed ledgers into practice

The DIGIT pilot is designed to explore how distributed-ledger technology can be used throughout the debt issuance lifecycle. That places the approval within LSEG's broader effort to extend its role from traditional market infrastructure into digital issuance and settlement.

Daniel Maguire, LSEG's Group Head of Markets and chief executive of LCH Group, described the approval as a milestone for digital financial markets in the UK. His comments, reported by FX News Group, emphasized more efficient, transparent and interoperable capital markets as the pilot progresses.

For investors, the development is strategically relevant but does not by itself establish a new earnings contribution or change the company's published financial outlook. The near-term significance lies in regulatory access, interoperability with HSBC's platform and the opportunity to build operational experience in digital securities.
