- The Phase 3 combination reduced the risk of distant cancer spread or death by 38 percent versus Keytruda alone.
- Overall survival remains unresolved, while regulators and manufacturers must still assess approval and production at scale.
- Moderna is expected to report third-quarter results on November 6, 2026.
Moderna stock traded at 198.49 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 17:09 CEST on Friday, October 30, 2026. That was 1.34 percent above the 195.86-euro quote in the latest relevant report on the same day at 11:41, extending the stock's move since that report without establishing a Xetra day comparison.
Phase 3 data support oncology strategy
Moderna and Merck released detailed Phase 3 results on Thursday, October 22, 2026, for the personalized mRNA cancer vaccine intismeran autogene. CNBC reported that adding the vaccine to Merck's Keytruda cut the risk of melanoma recurrence or death by 42 percent versus Keytruda alone.
The trial involved roughly 1,100 patients whose tumors had been surgically removed. The combination also reduced the risk of distant cancer spread or death by 38 percent. After two years, about 82 percent of patients receiving the combination remained free of recurrence, compared with 70 percent given Keytruda alone.
The treatment is designed for the postoperative setting and uses tumor-specific mutations to train the immune system against residual cancer cells. CNBC said six melanoma specialists viewed the findings as a clinically meaningful advance, while also stressing that the trial does not establish whether the approach is more effective than immunotherapy given before surgery.
Approval and production remain next tests
Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel told CNBC that the company was finishing a regulatory filing and aimed for approval next year. That remains a company objective rather than an approval decision. Overall survival also remains under investigation, so the recurrence result has not yet established a long-term survival benefit.
The commercial challenge is individualized production. Each vaccine is tailored to a patient's tumor and can take several weeks to manufacture, creating a capacity and cost hurdle if the treatment reaches routine care. Results in melanoma also do not establish comparable efficacy in lung, bladder or kidney cancer.
Investors will next look to Moderna's third-quarter results, scheduled for November 6, 2026, for updates on the broader business and the company's transition beyond Covid products.
