Nasdaq plans to expand trading in U.S. equities to 23 hours a day, five days a week, beginning Sunday, December 6, 2026, at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The exchange operator said the move is designed to give investors broader access across time zones while retaining the protections of a registered national securities exchange.

Nasdaq's 23/5 trading explanation says the schedule will run from Sunday evening through Friday evening, ending at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time. A one-hour pause from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. each weekday will support maintenance, corporate action processing, clearing, settlement and reference-data work.

Infrastructure Supports Longer Access

The company plans to preserve its regular opening and closing crosses, which remain important for price discovery and benchmark pricing. Nasdaq also highlights overnight price-band protections, regulatory halts, enhanced customer disclosures and continued regulatory oversight.

Nasdaq said most liquidity is still expected to remain concentrated during traditional U.S. trading hours. The additional session could nevertheless let investors respond to economic news, earnings announcements and global events without waiting for the next regular session. The practical benefit for shareholders will depend on participation, spreads and available market depth during overnight periods.

The expansion is part of a broader infrastructure strategy. In its October 22 earnings review, Nasdaq Newsroom said third-quarter net revenue reached 1.5 billion U.S. dollars, up 13 percent on a reported basis and 14 percent organically. Annualized recurring revenue rose 12 percent to 3.4 billion U.S. dollars, while solutions revenue increased 17 percent on a reported basis.

Market Services generated record quarterly net revenue of 309 million U.S. dollars, although its growth was 2 percent year over year. Non-GAAP diluted earnings per share increased 18 percent on a reported basis to 1.04 U.S. dollars. Nasdaq also said it updated its 2026 non-GAAP operating expense guidance to a range of 2.550 billion to 2.580 billion U.S. dollars.

Nasdaq stock traded at 96.60 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 13:15 CET on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Investors will focus next on operational readiness, regulatory coordination and evidence that the extended session can attract sufficient liquidity without weakening execution quality.
