Navitas Petroleum has assumed operatorship of South Africa's Block 1 CBK after receiving regulatory approval, according to Oil and Gas News in its October 2026 edition. The move followed Eco Atlantic's farm-down of a 37.5 percent working interest.
South African asset expands growth options
Block 1 CBK covers 19,929 square kilometres in the Orange Basin, adjacent to Namibia. The licence contains a confirmed gas discovery as well as significant prospective resources, giving Navitas an additional exploration and development position beyond its established producing assets.
Operatorship gives Navitas a central role in coordinating work on the block and shaping its future appraisal and development programme. The reported regulatory approval removes one immediate execution step, while the commercial significance of the discovery will depend on further technical work and project decisions.
Portfolio breadth remains the focus
For investors, the South African position adds another long-term growth option to a portfolio that also includes major oil and gas projects in the United States and the Southwest Atlantic. The asset could broaden the partnership's resource base, although exploration potential does not yet establish future production or cash flow.
