- ESA awarded OHB a EUR 554 million contract for the next-generation Sentinel-3 topography mission.
- The Hera spacecraft, built by OHB for ESA, returned its first close-up images of the Didymos asteroid system.
- ESA plans to release detailed images of both asteroids on November 25.
OHB enters the weekend after two space-program milestones highlighted its operating profile. On November 4, OHB System AG received a EUR 554 million contract from the European Space Agency to develop the next-generation Sentinel-3 topography mission. On November 6, the company reported that its Hera spacecraft had returned its first close-up images of the Didymos asteroid system.
OHB said the Sentinel-3 Next Generation Topography mission will improve observations of oceans, coastal regions, sea ice and inland waters. The contract includes an option for a second satellite, although the company did not state that the option had been exercised.
Hera Reaches Its Final Approach
According to OHB, Hera captured the image from around 60 kilometers away and completed rehearsals for its rendezvous and proximity operations. OHB led the spacecraft's development, construction, integration, testing and launch within a European industrial team.
The next major mission milestone is scheduled for November 25, when ESA plans to unveil detailed images of Didymos and Dimorphos. For investors, the announcement keeps OHB's space-program execution in focus ahead of the company's nine-month results on November 12.
OHB stock traded at 193.10 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 23:00 CET on Friday, November 6.
