- Ottobock led Blue Arbor Technologies' 10.5 million US-dollar Series A financing.

Ottobock is deepening its position in advanced prosthetic control through a strategic investment in Blue Arbor Technologies. The Michigan-based medical technology company announced the close of a 10.5 million US-dollar Series A financing on October 29, with Ottobock leading the round.
The financing will support completion of feasibility testing for Blue Arbor's RESTORE Neuromuscular Interface System, preparations for a US Food and Drug Administration Investigational Device Exemption and the launch of US clinical studies. Blue Arbor will also begin development of an implantable internal sensing unit alongside its external sensing unit.
The details were published by BioSpace, which republished the Business Wire announcement. Oliver Jakobi, Ottobock's chief executive, said the investment reflects a strategy of deploying capital in areas that complement the core business and offer long-term growth potential.
RESTORE targets finer prosthetic control
RESTORE is designed to provide independent and simultaneous control of a prosthesis' fingers, wrist and elbow. Blue Arbor is developing an external sensing unit and a fully implantable internal sensing unit that connect the patient's peripheral nervous system with a robotic prosthetic limb.
Blue Arbor said two successful human implantations had been completed. Feasibility work includes a second-in-human procedure using the external sensing unit at the Medical University of Vienna. The system has also been selected for a University of Michigan clinical study supported by a UG3 grant from the National Institutes of Health, where surface electrodes will be compared with implanted electrodes for prosthetic control.
The company said RESTORE has received FDA Breakthrough Device Designation and has been accepted into the FDA's Total Product Life Cycle Advisory Program pilot. These milestones define a regulatory and clinical pathway, but they do not represent commercial approval. Blue Arbor described the system as investigational, so the eventual market opportunity remains dependent on clinical results, regulatory progress and adoption by patients and clinicians.
What the investment means for Ottobock
For Ottobock, the transaction extends its exposure to neuromuscular interfaces beyond established prosthetic products. The strategic rationale is tied to future product capability rather than an immediate revenue contribution, while the financing places Ottobock closer to the development process and clinical evidence for a new control technology.
