Panasonic Holdings raised its fiscal 2027 operating profit forecast on Friday, October 30, after stronger-than-expected demand linked to artificial intelligence infrastructure. Reuters reported that the company lifted the forecast from 590 billion yen to 710 billion yen, while Panasonic's official release confirmed the reporting period ended September 30, 2026.

The upgrade extends a stronger earnings trend into the second half of the fiscal year ending in March 2027. Chief Executive Yuki Kusumi said AI-related demand had exceeded expectations and described the scale of the improvement as a surprise. Reuters attributed the revised outlook to higher AI-linked sales in the Industry business, price changes, favorable foreign exchange rates and the absence of the US tariff impact seen a year earlier.

Battery Profit Leads Business Momentum

Panasonic's Energy unit delivered the clearest operating improvement. Second-quarter operating profit rose to 55.6 billion yen from 1.2 billion yen a year earlier, according to Reuters. Higher sales of electric-vehicle batteries in North America and energy storage systems for data centers supported the increase.

The company also raised the Energy unit's full-year operating profit forecast by 16%, from 171 billion yen to 198 billion yen. Panasonic supplies batteries to Tesla and other electric-vehicle manufacturers, while its Industry business is benefiting from demand for capacitors and multilayer circuit-board materials used in AI infrastructure.

What Investors Should Watch Next

The outlook places execution in North American battery production and data center energy storage at the center of the investment case. Stronger demand can improve capacity utilization, but the higher forecast also raises the bar for delivery during the second half of the fiscal year.
