- Panasonic reported record second-quarter profit and raised its fiscal 2027 forecast.
- AI infrastructure demand is accelerating across capacitors, circuit materials and data-center energy storage.
- Battery production and planned capacity additions increase the importance of execution in the second half.
Panasonic Holdings reported record second-quarter profit for fiscal 2027 and raised its full-year outlook after stronger demand from AI infrastructure and battery customers. A Reuters report published by Investing.com said sales reached JPY 2,073.6 billion in the quarter ended September 30, 2026, while operating profit rose to JPY 180.7 billion.
Panasonic raised fiscal 2027 operating profit guidance to JPY 710 billion from JPY 590 billion. Adjusted operating profit guidance increased to JPY 780 billion from JPY 650 billion, while management said the group could reach its fiscal 2029 adjusted operating profit target two years early.
AI demand broadens growth base
AI infrastructure was the main growth driver in the quarter. Panasonic cited stronger demand for conductive polymer capacitors, multilayer circuit-board materials, factory-automation products and data-center energy storage.
Industry sales tied to AI infrastructure reached JPY 88.6 billion in the quarter, 1.6 times the year-earlier level. Panasonic raised the full-year forecast for that business to JPY 360 billion from JPY 310 billion and lifted its fiscal 2029 AI-infrastructure sales target to JPY 1.6 trillion from JPY 1.38 trillion.
Battery expansion adds execution focus
The Energy business provided a second weekly catalyst. Higher output at North American vehicle-battery plants and stronger demand for data-center storage supported a sharp improvement in quarterly profitability. Panasonic also said it would expand supply capacity for circuit materials, capacitors and battery-related products.
The company announced JPY 92 billion of investment within an existing JPY 150 billion program and is considering more than JPY 100 billion of additional spending if demand continues to exceed expectations. Management cautioned that power and labor shortages could delay data-center construction, creating an execution risk alongside the growth opportunity.
