- Petrobras reached record third-quarter output as new offshore platforms ramped up.
- Twelve producing wells started during the quarter, while the P-80 and P-82 platforms are scheduled to begin operations in 2027.
- Higher output and improved asset utilization strengthen the operating base ahead of the next results.
Petrobras set a production record in the third quarter of 2026 as new offshore platforms and higher operating efficiency lifted output. The companys own production of oil, natural gas liquids and natural gas averaged 3.512 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, according to World Oil on October 29.
The quarterly average rose 5.3 percent from the second quarter and 11.7 percent from a year earlier. Petrobras attributed the increase to its highest production efficiency in eight years, the ramp-up of the P-78 and P-79 floating production, storage and offloading units at Búzios, peak output from the Alexandre de Gusmão platform at Mero and fewer losses from maintenance shutdowns.
Offshore Projects Lift Output
Twelve new producing wells started during the quarter, six in the Campos basin and six in the Santos basin. Total operated production, including volumes attributable to partners, reached a record 5.08 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, while operated pre-salt production climbed to 4.46 million.
Petrobras own pre-salt oil production rose 6.7 percent from the previous quarter to 2.454 million barrels per day. The increase was supported by seven new wells, six of them in Santos. Production from post-salt deep and ultra-deep fields fell 4.2 percent to 341,000 barrels per day because of maintenance losses in Campos and natural decline at mature fields.
At Mero, the Alexandre de Gusmão platform reached its design capacity of 180,000 barrels per day in August and hit a peak of 190,000 barrels per day in September after a capacity increase was approved. The Sepetiba platform reached a daily peak of 212,000 barrels, while Mero platforms averaged 760,000 barrels per day during the quarter.
Next Platforms Point To Growth
The Almirante Tamandaré platform at Búzios recorded a monthly peak of 263,000 barrels per day in July. Petrobras said the P-80 and P-82 platforms left a Singapore shipyard in late September and mid-October for Búzios. Each platform is designed to produce 225,000 barrels per day and is scheduled to start up in 2027.
Chief exploration and production officer Sylvia Anjos said the company was producing more and using its assets more effectively, supported by operational excellence, safety and technology. The associated gas utilization index reached a record 98.3 percent.
