- Philips exceeded the adjusted EBITA consensus in the third quarter despite a sales miss.
- A proposed Respironics settlement remains subject to final documentation and payment is expected in the first quarter of 2027.
- Management maintained its 2026 targets while other Respironics-related proceedings remain outside the outlook.
Philips delivered a stronger-than-expected adjusted profit in the third quarter, but sales fell slightly short of market expectations. The results, reported on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, leave investors weighing improved operating performance against continuing legal exposure from the Respironics recall.
Reuters reported that adjusted earnings before interest, taxes and amortisation rose 7.2 percent to EUR 569 million. Analysts polled by Philips had expected EUR 522 million. Comparable sales increased 3 percent to EUR 4.39 billion, slightly below the EUR 4.41 billion consensus.
Orders Support The Annual Targets
Comparable order intake increased 8 percent in the quarter, driven by demand in the Diagnosis & Treatment business. Philips said higher sales, improved gross margin and productivity measures more than offset cost inflation.
The company maintained its 2026 targets for comparable sales growth of 3 to 4.5 percent, an adjusted EBITA margin of 13.5 to 14.0 percent and free cash flow of EUR 1.5 to 1.7 billion. The margin outlook includes an expected benefit from US tariff refunds, while the cash-flow target includes a net benefit of about EUR 200 million.
Respironics Settlement Still Pending
Philips recorded a EUR 288 million provision after its Respironics unit reached an agreement in principle with the US Department of Justice over previously disclosed investigations linked to the device recall. The agreement remains subject to final documentation, and payment is expected in the first quarter of 2027.
Other Respironics-related proceedings, including an investigation by US state attorneys general, remain outside the 2026 outlook. For investors, the key issue is whether order momentum can translate into sales and cash flow while legal uncertainty continues to affect reported earnings.
