- UBS upgraded Ross Stores to Buy and raised its price target from 239 US dollars to 315 US dollars on October 26.
- The bank sees merchandising, store operations and marketing as levers to narrow the productivity gap with TJ Maxx.
- Ross Stores is expected to report fiscal third-quarter results on November 19, with sales productivity and margins in focus.
Ross Stores stock traded at 211.65 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 17:08 CET on Thursday, November 5, 2026. That was 4.27 percent below the 221.08-euro quote in the latest own report, published earlier the same day at 14:44 CET, creating the fresh market development for this second report.
The investment case remains centered on UBS's October 26 upgrade of Ross Stores from Neutral to Buy. In a CNBC report, the bank raised its price target from 239 US dollars to 315 US dollars and argued that Chief Executive James Conroy can improve store productivity.
Productivity gap drives the thesis
UBS said Ross Stores and TJ Maxx had broadly similar productivity in 2017, but TJ Maxx's productivity increased 44 percent by the end of 2025, compared with 24 percent at Ross Stores. The bank identified better merchandise and brand selection, stronger in-store execution and more effective marketing as the main operating levers.
UBS expects the plan to support comparable-store sales growth beyond 2026 and into fiscal 2027 and later years. It forecasts annual revenue growth of 8.5 percent over the next two years, 260 basis points above the consensus estimate cited by the bank.
Execution remains the investor test
The opportunity also carries a margin risk. Higher marketing and operating spending could arrive before stronger traffic, sales and earnings make the investment pay off. The key question for investors is whether productivity gains become visible in comparable sales without eroding profitability.
Ross Stores is expected to report its fiscal third-quarter results on November 19. Comparable-store sales, traffic, merchandise margins and investment in marketing will help investors assess whether the UBS thesis is gaining operational support.
