- The Rune acquisition would extend Missionforce from enterprise systems into frontline operations that can function with limited connectivity.
- Salesforce says its defense business is gaining traction across all six U.S. military branches.
Salesforce announced on Thursday, October 29, that it had signed a definitive agreement to acquire Rune Technologies, a provider of edge-native software for military logistics and sustainment. The company said the transaction would strengthen Missionforce by extending its reach from enterprise systems into frontline operations.
According to the Salesforce announcement, Rune helps frontline teams forecast supply needs, optimize resources and make operational decisions in denied, degraded, intermittent or limited connectivity environments. Its platform connects information from enterprise systems with real-time operational data and synchronizes it when connectivity returns.
Missionforce moves closer to frontline operations
Salesforce described the transaction as its most significant national security-focused acquisition. Rune's technology is designed to support logistics planning, resource allocation and transportation routing at the tactical edge, where military units may not have a continuous link to headquarters.
The acquisition would add Rune's situational-intelligence, simulation and optimization capabilities to Missionforce. Salesforce said the combination should connect frontline supply and movement needs with enterprise workflows, improving operational visibility, field service and asset management. Rune is already deployed with the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps, according to the company.
The strategic rationale rests on Salesforce's effort to build a broader government and defense business. Salesforce said that business is growing 80 percent year over year one year after Missionforce's launch and has customers across all six U.S. military branches. The company also pointed to a 10-year U.S. Army contract with a ceiling of 5.6 billion United States dollars to modernize operations. A ceiling is not a guarantee of revenue, but it shows the size of the market Salesforce is targeting.
Closing remains the next milestone
The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of Salesforce's fiscal year 2027, subject to customary closing conditions. Financial terms were not disclosed in the company's announcement. Until completion, the agreement remains subject to those conditions and does not by itself change Salesforce's reported operating results.
