- Strategy's third-quarter operating income was driven almost entirely by a digital-asset gain.
- Software revenue declined year over year, although gross margin improved.
- Andrew Kang is due to leave as CFO on November 5, with Reza Virasteh scheduled to take over on January 1, 2027.
Strategy reported a record third-quarter result on October 29, but the headline profit came mainly from the accounting effect of higher bitcoin prices. In the company's release carried by Morningstar, operating income reached 20.91 billion US dollars for the three months ended September 30, 2026. The result included a 20.91 billion US dollar gain on digital assets.
Net income was 19.53 billion US dollars, or 44.75 US dollars per diluted share, compared with 2.79 billion US dollars and 8.42 US dollars in the year-earlier quarter. The accounting gain boosted reported earnings but does not represent recurring software revenue or cash generated by selling bitcoin.
Software revenue remains under pressure
Total revenue declined 3 percent year over year to 125.4 million US dollars. Gross profit reached 89.6 million US dollars, while the gross margin improved to 71 percent from 70 percent in the prior-year quarter.
Strategy held 848,517 bitcoin as of October 25, according to the company release. The holding represented 26 percent growth year to date, while the company also reported a negative 3.7 percent BTC Yield for the same period.
CFO transition moves closer
Chief Financial Officer Andrew Kang is scheduled to step down on November 5, 2026, and remain with Strategy as an adviser through December 31. Chief Executive Officer Phong Le will oversee the finance organization during the transition. Reza Virasteh, currently executive vice president of operations, is scheduled to become CFO on January 1, 2027, alongside Le as co-principal financial officer.
