- Third-quarter sales increased 7.7 percent, while reported earnings declined after impairment and other special items.
- Adjusted earnings per share rose 10.3 percent as the adjusted operating margin widened to 26.2 percent.
- Management lowered its 2026 organic sales-growth and adjusted earnings-per-share ranges.
Stryker reported third-quarter results on Thursday, October 29, after the U.S. market close, combining solid sales growth with a lower full-year outlook. The company said the quarter fell short of its own expectations, while Chief Executive Kevin Lobo said the underlying fundamentals remained strong. The detailed results were published by Nasdaq.
Sales growth meets softer outlook
Net sales rose 7.7 percent to USD 6.52 billion in the quarter ended September 30, 2026. Organic sales also increased 7.7 percent, mainly because of higher unit volume. MedSurg and Neurotechnology sales advanced 9.2 percent, while Orthopaedics grew 5.7 percent on a reported basis.
The earnings picture was mixed. Reported net earnings fell 12.3 percent to USD 753 million, and diluted earnings per share declined 11.7 percent to USD 1.96. The reported figures included acquisition and integration costs, structural and regulatory charges, legal matters and a USD 293 million goodwill impairment.
Margins cushion adjusted earnings
On an adjusted basis, net earnings increased 10.1 percent to USD 1.4 billion, while adjusted earnings per share rose 10.3 percent to USD 3.52. The adjusted operating margin expanded by 60 basis points to 26.2 percent. Stryker said operational efficiencies and disciplined spending supported the adjusted result, although the reported impairment charges weighed on GAAP earnings.
Management lowered its 2026 organic sales-growth forecast to 6.5 percent to 7.0 percent from 8.3 percent to 9.3 percent previously. The adjusted diluted earnings-per-share range was reduced to USD 14.80 to USD 14.90 from USD 14.95 to USD 15.10. The company still expects a modestly positive pricing contribution and a slightly favorable foreign-exchange effect if rates remain near current levels.
Procedure trends remain the test
Lobo characterized the quarter as good in absolute terms but below expectations. He pointed to a solid fourth quarter and momentum into 2027. The outlook places greater emphasis on procedure volumes, supply availability and execution in capital equipment, while the stronger adjusted margin offers some support for profitability.
