- UCB will use Cradle's platform across selected discovery projects from hit generation through lead optimization and preclinical readiness.
- Laboratory results will feed back into program-specific models in a recurring lab-in-the-loop process.
- Management said the collaboration is intended to improve molecule design and accelerate progress toward potential candidates.
UCB and Cradle announced a strategic collaboration on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, to expand the Belgian drugmaker's digital antibody discovery and engineering program. The announcement, carried by BioSpace from a PR Newswire release, says UCB will use Cradle's AI-driven protein design and engineering platform in selected discovery programs.
The scope runs from hit generation through lead optimization and preclinical readiness. UCB said the collaboration adds Cradle's end-to-end platform to its own antibody discovery capabilities, computational science and disease-biology expertise. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Lab feedback drives candidate design
The program is built around a recurring lab-in-the-loop process. As UCB scientists use the platform, experimental results feed back into models tailored to individual programs. That feedback is intended to help researchers optimize candidates across the properties required for further development while retaining scientific judgement in the decision process.
Alistair Henry, UCB's chief scientific officer, described AI as a force multiplier for expertise across biology, chemistry and translational research. He said predictive modeling combined with laboratory validation could help UCB design better molecules, learn faster and bring high-quality therapeutics to patients sooner. Cradle chief executive Stef van Grieken said the partnership could give UCB scientists a common platform for more programs, modalities and complex engineering challenges.
Early-stage potential still needs proof
For investors, the collaboration strengthens UCB's research infrastructure but does not yet represent a product launch, clinical result or disclosed financial contribution. The commercial relevance will depend on whether candidates supported by the platform progress from discovery into preclinical and clinical development. UCB's own investor page lists a broad neurology and immunology pipeline, including expected future readouts for several programs, while also noting that preclinical results do not guarantee safety or efficacy.
