UPS stock enters the holiday peak with a higher 2026 outlook after a quarterly earnings beat. Cash flow gives the dividend more room.

UPS enters peak season stronger

  • UPS raised its 2026 revenue, adjusted operating profit, adjusted earnings and free cash flow outlook after a third-quarter beat.
  • Pricing, premium services and network efficiency offset weaker package volumes in the domestic business.
  • The holiday quarter will test whether a leaner network can protect margins as UPS reduces lower-margin shipments.

United Parcel Service raised its 2026 outlook after reporting third-quarter results on October 27 that exceeded the company’s earlier expectations. In its third-quarter earnings release, UPS said consolidated revenue rose 6.7 percent to 22.9 billion US dollars, while adjusted diluted earnings per share reached 1.69 US dollars.

The company now expects 2026 revenue of approximately 92.6 billion US dollars, compared with its previous forecast of 91.2 billion US dollars. Adjusted operating profit guidance increased to approximately 8.75 billion US dollars from 8.65 billion US dollars, while adjusted diluted earnings per share guidance rose to approximately 7.28 US dollars from 7.22 US dollars. UPS also lifted its adjusted free cash flow target to approximately 6.1 billion US dollars.

Pricing offsets weaker package volumes

UPS is relying on revenue quality rather than shipment growth. U.S. Domestic Package revenue increased 4.5 percent in the third quarter, supported by a 6.1 percent rise in revenue per piece. The segment’s adjusted operating margin improved to 7.0 percent from 6.4 percent a year earlier.

International revenue increased 7.1 percent, helped by a 15.0 percent increase in revenue per piece. Supply Chain Solutions revenue rose 18.2 percent, primarily through forwarding and logistics growth, including healthcare. Its adjusted operating profit nevertheless fell to 274 million US dollars from 536 million US dollars, and the adjusted margin declined to 9.2 percent from 21.3 percent.

Reported third-quarter figures included a 279 million US dollar after-tax charge from transformation costs and a goodwill impairment in Supply Chain Solutions, partly offset by a gain on the sale of aircraft assets. The adjusted figures exclude these items and therefore present a different view of the quarter from GAAP earnings.

Holiday peak remains the test

For the fourth quarter, UPS expects revenue of approximately 25.7 billion US dollars and adjusted operating profit of approximately 3.3 billion US dollars. The company said it enters the holiday period with a more automated network and expects nearly 70 percent of packages to pass through an automated process during peak.

That strategy carries a trade-off for investors. Lower-margin volume has been reduced, particularly in the relationship with Amazon, while pricing and premium segments must sustain profitability. UPS said its network and efficiency initiatives generated approximately 1.8 billion US dollars of benefits during the first nine months and are expected to deliver nearly 3 billion US dollars for the full year.
