Vertiv stock weighs data-center scrutiny after outlook upgrade

- Vertiv raised its 2026 outlook after strong third-quarter growth and higher adjusted earnings.
- Political scrutiny of US data-center projects has introduced a new permitting risk for infrastructure suppliers.
- OpenAI's continued expansion shows that demand for computing capacity remains a central industry driver.
Vertiv is entering the new week with two forces shaping its investment case: a stronger company outlook and rising political scrutiny of US data-center construction. The company raised its 2026 guidance after reporting third-quarter net sales of 4.313 billion US dollars on October 28, while election-related opposition has since put project timing under a brighter spotlight.
Higher Outlook Meets New Risk
Vertiv's third-quarter release said sales increased 61 percent from a year earlier. Management lifted full-year 2026 net sales guidance to a midpoint of 14.65 billion US dollars and adjusted diluted earnings-per-share guidance to 7.15 US dollars.
The figures strengthen the fundamental case for power and cooling equipment used in data centers. At the same time, a Yahoo Finance analysis noted that delayed second-quarter sales of 100 million to 150 million US dollars were recognized in the third quarter. The timing effect makes execution and the fourth-quarter progression important for investors assessing the quality of the acceleration.
Permits Become A Market Question
Reuters reported on November 6 that OpenAI plans to press ahead with US data-center expansion despite fears that the Democratic midterm sweep could bring tighter scrutiny. The report said opposition has focused on electricity use, water demand and local infrastructure, while OpenAI plans greater community engagement.
For Vertiv, the issue is not a direct change to its guidance. It is a potential timing risk for customers that need permits, power connections and construction capacity before ordering infrastructure. Continued expansion by major technology companies supports demand, but slower approvals could make project schedules less predictable.
