Volaris stock enters focus after a record quarterly revenue milestone. Higher fuel costs still pushed the airline into a net loss.

Revenue milestone meets margin pressure

  • Third-quarter revenue rose 32.4 percent year over year, while operating expenses increased 40.2 percent.
  • EBITDAR margin fell to 25.3 percent as fuel costs climbed 57.4 percent.
  • Volaris expects fourth-quarter EBITDAR margin of about 20 percent and full-year 2026 margin of about 21 percent.

Volaris crossed a major revenue threshold in the third quarter, but rising fuel costs kept profitability under pressure. The Mexican ultra-low-cost carrier reported the results on October 26, according to a company release hosted by AP News.

Revenue growth outpaced capacity

Operating revenue reached 1,038 million US dollars in the three months ended September 30, 2026, up 32.4 percent from the year-earlier quarter. Available seat miles rose 11.1 percent, while booked passengers increased 14.3 percent to 9.0 million. Revenue per available seat mile climbed 19.2 percent to 10.31 cents, supported by higher fares and ancillary revenue.

The stronger commercial performance lifted operating income to 34 million US dollars, compared with 68 million a year earlier. Volaris nevertheless posted a 26 million US dollar net loss, or 23 cents per American Depositary Share, against net income of 6 million US dollars in the prior-year quarter.

Fuel costs weigh on margins

Total operating expenses rose 40.2 percent to 1,004 million US dollars. Average economic fuel cost increased 57.4 percent to 4.10 US dollars per gallon, pushing cost per available seat mile up 26.2 percent to 9.97 cents. Excluding fuel, the measure rose 13.7 percent to 6.23 cents.

EBITDAR was broadly stable at 263 million US dollars, but the EBITDAR margin declined to 25.3 percent from 33.6 percent. Cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments totaled 823 million US dollars at September 30, while financial debt stood at 598 million US dollars.

Fourth-quarter outlook turns more cautious

Management expects available seat mile growth of about 4 percent in the fourth quarter and TRASM of roughly 10.90 cents. The projected EBITDAR margin is about 20 percent, with an assumed US Gulf Coast jet fuel price of approximately 4.40 US dollars per gallon. For full-year 2026, Volaris targets about 5 percent capacity growth, a roughly 21 percent EBITDAR margin and capital expenditure of about 350 million US dollars.
