Walmex stock balances digital growth against weaker Q3 profit

- Walmex expanded digital sales while quarterly profitability weakened.
- Management maintained its 2026 constant-currency sales-growth outlook.
- Cost control and productivity will shape the next phase of the expansion plan.
Walmart de México y Centroamérica increased third-quarter revenue, but investment and operating costs continued to weigh on earnings. ESM Magazine reported on November 2 that revenue for the July-September period rose 3.0 percent year over year to MXN 248.8 billion, or 3.6 percent in constant currency.
Sales growth remains uneven
Mexico revenue grew 3.1 percent to MXN 206.7 billion, while Central America advanced 6.0 percent to MXN 42.1 billion. Same-store sales increased 1.7 percent in Mexico and 4.8 percent in Central America, with the Mexican average ticket up 1.6 percent while traffic remained broadly flat.
Digital commerce provided the clearest growth support. Mexico e-commerce net sales climbed 15.8 percent, and store-fulfilled sales increased 20.8 percent. The figures point to stronger digital reach beyond physical-store traffic, although the expansion requires continued spending on technology, capacity and price competitiveness.
ESM Magazine reported that consolidated EBITDA rose 0.4 percent to MXN 25.4 billion, while the EBITDA margin contracted 30 basis points to 10.2 percent. Quarterly net profit was MXN 11.0 billion, leaving profitability behind the pace of digital expansion.
Guidance keeps expansion on track
Management reaffirmed its 2026 outlook for consolidated sales growth of 3.5 percent to 4.5 percent in constant currency. It also continued to expect the EBITDA margin to finish slightly below the prior year's level. For investors, execution and productivity remain central because the current growth strategy is generating sales momentum before fully converting that momentum into profit.
