- Bitcoin Cash developers are reviewing CHIP-2026-06, which proposes support for post-quantum and hybrid signatures.
- The proposal could reach lock-in on November 15, 2026, with activation targeted for May 15, 2027, but neither date is guaranteed.
- An Investing.com page read on November 4 displayed Bitcoin Cash at 289.12 US dollars, with a market capitalization of 5.83 billion US dollars.
Bitcoin Cash is entering a new development phase focused on cryptographic resilience. As reported by The Quantum Insider on November 5, developers are reviewing CHIP-2026-06, a Cash Improvement Proposal that would add the OP_SIGHASH opcode and create a framework for post-quantum and hybrid signature schemes.
What the proposal changes
According to the report, OP_SIGHASH would expose the transaction hash already calculated during signature verification. The change is designed to make contracts using alternative signature schemes simpler and less prone to implementation errors. The proposal does not introduce new cryptography or new sighash semantics; instead, it makes existing node-level processing available to contracts.
CHIP-2026-06 also describes a signature-dispatch mechanism. Existing secp256k1 signatures could be used alongside post-quantum schemes such as SPHINCS+ and Falcon-512. Hybrid keys would require both the classical and post-quantum components to verify successfully. The reported design would use ordinary Pay-to-Public-Key-Hash outputs, which could preserve existing address formats and wallet compatibility.
Review dates remain conditional
The proposal is under active discussion and implementation review. The Quantum Insider reported a potential lock-in date of November 15, 2026, and a targeted mainnet activation date of May 15, 2027. These are milestones in the CHIP process rather than completed network changes. Bitcoin Cash Node developers have opened a merge request for the opcode, but stakeholder feedback and implementation decisions remain outstanding.
Investor context for BCH
The immediate investment relevance is therefore primarily technical and long term. A successful change could lower the development barrier for applications using alternative or combined signature schemes, but it would not by itself establish additional transaction demand or guarantee a change in the Bitcoin Cash price.
For market context, an Investing.com Bitcoin Cash page read on November 4 displayed a price of 289.12 US dollars. The page also showed a market capitalization of 5.83 billion US dollars, 24-hour volume of 245.85 million US dollars and a 52-week range of 181.10 to 668.87 US dollars. Those figures provide a dated market snapshot rather than a current trading signal.
Investors following the Bitcoin Cash price should distinguish the proposed security upgrade from an activated protocol change. The next relevant checkpoints are the community review, any lock-in decision and the eventual implementation process. Further coverage is available on the Bitcoin Cash topic page.
