Bovespa closed at 206,986 points on October 13, losing 2,081 points or 1.0 percent, Acoes Capital reported. The retreat followed profit-taking after the index's 8.82 percent weekly rally and renewed election caution.
From the 209,067-point level earlier on Tuesday, Bovespa fell 2,081 points by the close. Vamos was among the steepest decliners, down 8.0 percent, while Movida fell 9.0 percent, Acoes Capital reported.
Why did Bovespa retreat on Tuesday?
Vale and banks weighed on the benchmark as investors responded to new election polling and reduced exposure after last week's advance. Vale shares fell 1.27 percent in afternoon trading, while Petrobras shares rose as longer-dated oil contracts strengthened, Valor Economico reported.
The central bank's Focus survey raised its 2026 inflation forecast to 5.22 percent from 5.01 percent. It also lowered the 2026 Selic forecast to 13.25 percent from 13.50 percent, InfoMoney reported.
Vamos leads Bovespa declines
Bovespa traded between a high of 209,072 points and a low of 206,146 points before finishing near the lower end of the range, according to Acoes Capital. The move came as domestic banks, retailers and mining shares weakened.
Brent crude settled 0.9 percent lower at USD 105.69, while Petrobras gained during the session. The mixed commodity backdrop added to the rotation between oil producers and more domestically exposed shares, InfoMoney reported.
