The BSE Sensex closed at 73,033.78 points on October 13, gaining 1,109.10 points or 1.5 percent. Information technology shares led the rebound after strong quarterly results from HCL Technologies.

HCL Technologies rose 8.3 percent, the strongest Sensex gainer. Its September-quarter profit increased 21.2 percent year over year to INR 51.32 billion, while revenue rose 11.5 percent to INR 356.20 billion, HDFC Sky reported.

Why did the BSE Sensex rise on October 13?

The rally followed HCLTech's earnings and spread across large technology companies. The Nifty IT index gained 5.2 percent, while technology shares also benefited from renewed buying after recent weakness, India Today said.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's comments on long-term capital-gains tax and securities transaction tax also improved sentiment. The market recovered despite elevated crude prices and a cautious global backdrop, Economic Times reported.
