The BSE Sensex closed at 75,692.78 on Monday, November 2, 2026, gaining 1,233.25 points or 1.66 percent from the previous session. The advance extended the benchmark's winning streak to three sessions and lifted it to its highest level since September 7, according to Business Today and The Indian Express.
Reliance drives benchmark advance
Reliance Industries was the main index heavyweight behind the rally. The Indian Express reported that the shares gained nearly 12 percent after the company posted better-than-expected results for the July-September quarter, with growth across its business verticals. Reliance has a significant weighting in India's benchmark indices, so its sharp move provided substantial support to the Sensex.
Crude and geopolitics improve sentiment
Market sentiment also benefited from a retreat in crude oil prices. Business Today reported that Brent crude eased toward USD 110 per barrel from a recent high near USD 118 as diplomatic discussions involving Iran and Qatar raised hopes of reduced geopolitical tension and fewer supply disruptions. For India, lower energy prices can reduce pressure on the import bill, inflation and external balances, although crude remained elevated by historical standards.
Broad participation, selective weakness
The advance was not limited to Reliance. Energy, metal and automobile stocks led sectoral gains, while IT and pharmaceutical shares ended lower, according to Business Today. The Indian Express reported that roughly 65 percent of traded NSE stocks finished higher, indicating broad participation despite weakness in some defensive and technology groups. The Nifty 50 also rose 387.70 points, or 1.68 percent, to 23,440.80.
What investors are watching
The session's combination of earnings support, softer oil prices and improved geopolitical expectations strengthened the short-term market tone. However, the relief rally remains exposed to changes in crude prices, developments in the Iran negotiations and the next round of corporate results. The Sensex's close above the 75,000 level therefore provides a stronger near-term reference point, rather than removing the macroeconomic risks affecting Indian equities.
