- Ethena reported approximately USD 8.8 million in unrealized Binance-related profit-and-loss exposure.
- CryptoNews.net reported that Chainlink and LlamaRisk confirmed backing above 101 percent, with excess collateral exceeding USD 60 million.
- Investing.com displayed USDe at USD 1.000, with a market capitalization of USD 4.50 billion and 24-hour volume of USD 45.65 million.
- The protocol's use of off-exchange custodians limits direct custody exposure but does not remove dependence on centralized exchanges for hedging.
Ethena's synthetic dollar is facing scrutiny over its links to Binance after the protocol disclosed approximately USD 8.8 million in unrealized profit-and-loss exposure to the exchange. Ethena said its collateral remains with off-exchange custodians, while the token's core minting and redemption functions continue to operate.
The disclosure followed a potential Binance security incident identified on October 29, 2026. Crypto Briefing reported that Ethena uses off-exchange settlement providers, including Copper and Ceffu, to hold and manage backing assets without transferring ownership of those assets to the trading venue.
What backs the synthetic dollar
USDe is not a conventional fiat-backed stablecoin. Its design uses collateral assets and derivatives positions in a delta-neutral strategy intended to reduce directional market exposure. That model still depends on exchanges for hedging and therefore retains operational exposure to trading venues even when collateral is held elsewhere.
CryptoNews.net reported that Chainlink and LlamaRisk had confirmed USDe backing above 101 percent, with excess collateral exceeding USD 60 million. The same report said Ethena's real-world-asset basis strategy represented USD 51 million, or 1.2 percent, of USD 4.54 billion in backing at the time of the disclosure. These figures describe the reported collateral position at that point and are not a guarantee against future market or counterparty risks.
Price remains close to the peg
On November 2, the Investing.com page displayed the Ethena USDe price at USD 1.000. The page also showed a 24-hour volume of USD 45.65 million, a market capitalization of USD 4.50 billion, a circulating amount of 4.51 billion USDe and a 52-week range of USD 0.997 to USD 1.002. Because the page did not provide a verified UTC closing comparison for the previous day, no daily percentage change is stated here.
For holders, the immediate issue is the distinction between custody and hedging risk. Off-exchange custody can reduce the risk that exchange wallets directly hold the collateral, but disruptions at a major venue could still affect the derivatives activity used to support the peg. The reported disclosures therefore offer context rather than removing the need to monitor collateral attestations, liquidity and redemption conditions.
