The Nasdaq Composite enters Wednesday's US session after a technology-led rebound, with investors balancing support from chip earnings against new political and macroeconomic uncertainty. The index closed Tuesday, November 3, at 25,372.01 points, up 207.65 points, or about 0.8 percent, according to the Associated Press. The Nasdaq's official index page lists the November 3 value at 25,372.01.
Chips restore some market support
Tuesday's advance followed a difficult start to the week for growth stocks. Nvidia and other artificial-intelligence names recovered, while semiconductor shares provided much of the Nasdaq's support. The Associated Press reported that Nvidia rose 2.3 percent and Broadcom gained 3.1 percent, while Microsoft, Amazon and Meta Platforms each advanced by more than 2 percent.
Apple moved in the opposite direction. The company warned that higher memory-chip costs could reduce the profit generated from each dollar of revenue, according to the Associated Press. That pressure kept the broader technology trade uneven even as chipmakers rebounded.
Election result adds a new policy variable
Investors are now assessing the reported Democratic takeover of both chambers of Congress in the US midterm elections. The initial overnight reaction was volatile because markets considered the possibility of greater scrutiny of artificial-intelligence infrastructure and data-center development. Stock futures later recovered. StockTitan reported that Nasdaq-100 futures had fallen sharply overnight before standing about 3.4 percent above that low at 6:25 a.m. Eastern time. This is a futures-market indication, not a Nasdaq Composite cash-market level or a forecast of the closing result.
Data and earnings ahead
Wednesday's calendar puts the labor market and services activity in focus. The scheduled releases include the ADP private-employment report, the US trade balance, the final S&P Global services and composite purchasing-managers indexes, and the ISM services index. XTB's economic calendar lists expectations of 69,000 new private-sector jobs for October and an ISM services reading of 54.8, compared with 54.9 previously.
Earnings remain an additional test for the technology narrative. AMD's results and stronger sales outlook supported semiconductor sentiment in early trading, while reports due later from companies including Qualcomm, Arm Holdings and Uber will provide further signals on chip demand, artificial-intelligence investment and consumer activity. The key question for the Nasdaq is whether leadership broadens beyond a narrow group of large technology and semiconductor stocks.
