Kioxia Holdings was the session's strongest Nikkei 225 gainer, rising 13.8 percent. The move followed renewed optimism over artificial intelligence demand and came before the company's quarterly results due on October 30, BNN Bloomberg reported.
Why did the Nikkei 225 rise on October 28?
South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix posted strong quarterly results, reinforcing demand optimism across artificial intelligence-linked shares. Reuters said the previous session's US technology gains and higher Korean stocks also supported Tokyo trading.
Buying widened beyond chips. Reuters said 10 of the Tokyo market's 33 industry groups rose, led by glass and ceramics, nonferrous metals and electrical equipment. Twenty-three groups declined, including insurance, foods and oil products.
